What you can expect
Start your tour at Txabarri Jauregia, a very impressive 20th century building located in the Moyúa Square which portrays renaissance architecture. An astonishing feature that you will notice in this building are the different sets of windows which are asymmetrical to others.
Wander around in the park known as Doña Casilda Iturrizar Park. The park is named after the philanthropist Casilda Iturrizar who donated the land. Here, you will also find the Bilbao Fine arts museum.
Visit one of the most impressive buildings in Bilbao known as the Azkuna Zentroa. Designed by the French designer Phillipe Stark, it has been awarded the Global awards for excellence.
Walk on the bridge known as Puente Zubizuri which has also been praised as a symbol for tourism as it connects hotels to the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum which you will come across. It contains modern and contemporary art.
Walk across the square known as Plaza Nueva (New square). It is a monumental square built in Neoclassical style and dates back to 1821. If possible, you will see the traditional Sunday flea market here. This square is also used for events such as festivals and concerts.
Dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries, you will see the Catedral de Santiago (Bilbao Cathedral) dedicated to St. James. Here, you will notice that the building construction is made of limestone and the architectural style varies between Gothic and Gothic revival.
As we continue, you will walk by the marketplace known as Mercado de la Ribera (Ribera market) where you will find local gourmet products. It has been mentioned in Guiness Book of records in 1990 as the largest covered market in Europe.
