Discover one of Colombia’s most extraordinary wonders on an unforgettable journey to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, a breathtaking underground masterpiece located 180 metres beneath the surface. Travel through the scenic landscapes of the Bogotá savanna while learning about the history and traditions of the region before arriving in the charming colonial town of Zipaquirá, whose name means “City of Our Father” in the ancient Chibcha language.

Step inside the world’s first underground salt temple, built within the tunnels of a former salt mine and considered one of Colombia’s greatest architectural achievements. As you descend into the Cathedral, you’ll be surrounded by impressive salt-carved tunnels, mystical lighting, and monumental spaces that blend spirituality, engineering, and history in a truly unique atmosphere.

During the experience, you’ll discover the history behind the 14 Stations of the Cross, admire the imposing central dome and the iconic illuminated cross carved deep within the mountain, and explore fascinating chambers shaped by centuries of salt extraction. Along the way, your guide will share stories about the indigenous Muisca communities who once used salt as a valuable form of trade long before the arrival of the Spanish.

One of the highlights of the visit is the spectacular water mirrors hidden within the underground cavities, creating stunning optical illusions and unforgettable photo opportunities. Every corner of the Cathedral offers a magical atmosphere that captivates travellers from around the world.

This tour is perfect for travellers looking to experience Colombia’s cultural heritage, history, and engineering wonders in a safe, comfortable, and well-organized excursion from Bogotá.
