The walking tour starts at our office in San Telmo, one of the oldest areas in Buenos Aires, famous for its vibrant tango and art scene. We will visit the San Telmo market, a building inaugurated in 1897 to supply the large wave of immigrants that arrived at that time. Today, you can still find some stores selling meat, vegetables and other groceries, although most of them offer local gastronomy and specialities from all over the world. Here we will taste some delicious empanadas. Then we will continue our walk along Defensa Street, in the heart of the San Telmo area, until we reach the park.
Continuing the tour, we will take a bus to the area of La Boca, best known for the Boca Juniors stadium and the colourful Caminito street. Here you will enjoy street performances of tango dancing and singing and learn how tango, football and the different influences of immigration have made Buenos Aires one of the most irresistible cities in the world.
On board another bus we will enjoy views of the modern skyscrapers of Puerto Madero until we reach Plaza de Mayo, the main square of Buenos Aires and the political heart of Argentina. We will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and observe the Cabildo, the colonial City Hall, and the Casa Rosada, seat of the executive branch. After touring the square, we will go to the Obelisk, symbol of Buenos Aires and be part of this incredible metropolis, going through the real experience of the daily life of an Argentine citizen and walk along the lively 9 de Julio Avenue, the widest avenue in the world.
On board the subway, we will arrive at the Recoleta area where we will find beautiful architecture, a large number of museums, elegant cafes and restaurants, exclusive avenues and shopping centres.
We will visit the impressive Recoleta Cemetery, resting place of most of the aristocratic families of the country and of famous historical figures such as Eva Duarte Perón. The tour ends for those who have selected the walking tour only option.
