Step back in time to the ancient city of Capua on this guided tour with your archaeologist guide! Explore the Campano Amphitheatre also known as Spartacus Arena, Gladiator Museum and Archaeological Museum of ancient Capua.
Just a few kilometres from Caserta, Santa Maria Capua Vetere holds traces of ancient Capua, the once lively and rich city of ancient Empire. Cicero used to call this place the “altera Roma”…
Start your tour inside the Campano Amphitheatre: it still stands out thanks to its excellent state of preservation. It was likely the model for the Colosseum in Rome, although it was then progressively embellished by the emperors Adriano and Antoninus Pius. This city, was also the place of many historical facts: Hannibal reached Capua with his army and elephants and top of the top, Spartacus started his rebellion!
Then, head inside the nearby Gladiator Museum. This museum still retains original portions of the decorations of the amphitheatre along with a reconstruction of a real gladiator fight. See exhibited finds that go back to the Iron Age.
Get ready to visit a real hidden gem, not so famous as big attractor as Pompeii or Colosseum, but nothing less honestly!
