MINIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 4
If there are fewer than 4 participants, the tour will not take place.
You will set off in an elegant minivan towards the Carrara Quarries and, travelling along the road that winds like a snake up to the summit of the mountain, you will cross the famous Vara Bridges, which, together with the striking tunnels carved into the rock, once formed the “former Marble Railway.”
Departure is from Marina di Massa at the following meeting points: Via Casola Parking Lot and Partaccia Info Point.
During the winter season, depending on availability, you will take a shared indoor guided tour by minivan inside a quarry lasting just under an hour in what is known as the “Marble Cathedral,” where the quarrying techniques, machinery and history of this precious material will be explained, OR an outdoor guided tour by 4x4 Jeep to reach an altitude of 700 metres, where you can admire an open-cast quarry from above and enjoy a stunning view all the way to the coast.
We will then take a stroll through the streets of the village of Colonnata, where a food tasting of Lardo di Colonnata and other typical products is planned.
Colonnata is the oldest village in the Carrara marble basins and is home to a unique local product, Lardo di Colonnata, which was the typical lunch of the quarry workers.
1 bottle of water is included in the price; other drinks and wine are not included.
IMPORTANT: The languages available on request during the INDOOR quarry tour are: Italian – English – French – German and Russian
For the OUTDOOR tour, the languages available are Italian and English only.
