Minimum number of participants: 4
If there are fewer than 4 participants, the tour won't take place.
You'll set off in a stylish minivan to the Carrara Quarries and, along the road that winds like a snake to the top of the mountain, you'll cross the famous Ponti di Vara which, together with the evocative tunnels carved into the rock, formed the “former Marmifera Railway”.
Departure is scheduled from Marina di Massa at the following meeting points: Via Casola car park and Partaccia Info-Point.
We'll head straight to the heart of the marble basins to visit the inside of an indoor quarry that's still in operation; it's a shared guided tour of just under an hour in what's called the “Marble Cathedral” where the extraction techniques, machinery, and history of this precious material will be explained.
Here you can admire a reproduction of Michelangelo's “CREATION OF ADAM,” created by the international artist Ozmo, which stands imposingly with its 160 square metres in the centre of the gallery.
Next, we'll take a walk through the streets of the village of Colonnata, where there will be a tasting of Lardo di Colonnata and other typical products.
Colonnata is the oldest town in the Carrara marble basins and is home to a unique local product, Lardo di Colonnata, which was the typical lunch of the quarrymen.
The price includes 1 bottle of water; other drinks and wine are not included.
IMPORTANT: The languages available during the tour inside the quarry are: Italian, English, French, German, and Russian
