It was where Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in North America, lived and owned a camera shop.

It is also home to many national landmarks, like one of the last historic film palaces from the 1920's, The Castro Theatre. And Queer Arts Featured, a gallery taking the culture of the area into a new era.
