Meet your tour guide at the ticket office, located within the imposing walls of the medieval castle of Cisterna d'Asti, and begin your guided visit to discover the ancient crafts of the past. Immerse yourself in the past for an hour and a half and visit the three floors of the castle, which now house one of the largest ethnographic museums in Piedmont.
The three floors feature 23 rooms illustrating 27 workshops through the objects and furnishings that were used in the past.
The tour starts in the cellar, where the blacksmith's and basket maker's workshops are set up, and where you will hear peasant legends, stories about the Cisterna coin and agricultural techniques. Of course, there is also a room dedicated to wine. The tour then continues to the Piano Nobile, where workshops filled with original local objects surround an ancient cistern. These include the bakery, the tavern, the printing shop, the tobacconist's, the nougat maker's, and the goldsmith's. You can also visit the room dedicated to Princess Maria Vittoria del Pozzo della Cisterna, the last noble heiress of the castle, and the council chamber.
The tour ends with a visit to the top floor, which houses the workshops of the cobbler-saddler, carpenter, weaver, wheelwright, watchmaker, knife grinder, mattress maker, tailor, midwife, and rooms dedicated to farming weights and measures, music, the middle class, and mutual aid societies.
