Your adventure begins at 7:00 AM from Quito, travelling the iconic Volcanoes Route as the Andean landscape changes before your eyes. After a short stop to stock up, you'll arrive at the Cotopaxi National Park, where the majesty of the volcano will leave you speechless.
First stop: the Limpiopungo lagoon at an altitude of 3,800 m. For 30 minutes, you will walk along its shores, surrounded by flora and fauna native to the Ecuadorian moorland, with Cotopaxi reflected in its waters.
You will then visit the Mariscal Sucre Interpretation Centre, where you will learn about the history and geology of the volcano through its exhibition rooms. It's the perfect way to understand the magnitude of what you're about to conquer.
The highlight comes when, from the parking area, you start the approximately 1-hour hike to the Jose Ribas shelter at an altitude of 4,864 metres. Each step brings you closer to the sky, with panoramic views that make the effort absolutely worth it.
