What connects Italy’s third-largest square to the rule of the House of Pio di Savoia? More importantly, did you know that in 17th-century Carpi, we can find the long hand of the Inquisition? We look forward to welcoming you on a visit to the small capital of the Po Valley, starting with Palazzo dei Pio, a castle complex steeped in mysteries and secrets and haunted by the ghost of the “White Lady,” and then exploring its main landmarks to discover the magic and fascinating stories associated with their history. We will visit the Cathedral of the Assumption, built according to a model inspired by Raphael’s design for St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, and, strolling along the Portico Lungo, we will reach Piazzale Re Astolfo to admire the Romanesque parish church of Santa Maria in Castello, known as “la Sagra,” and its 162.4-foot (49.50-meter) bell tower.
We will visit the interior of the Cathedral and the Pieve Santa Maria in Castello
