Activity itinerary

Porte d'Arans (Pass by)
On your right, it is the Arans gate that marks the entrance to the Dolois city centre. Built in 1551, it was part of the fortifications that surrounded the city at that time.
Le pavillon des Arquebusiers (Pass by)
This building was built in the 18th century. At that time, it served as a fire training centre for arquebusiers, soldiers who used an old firearm, the arquebuse. From 1908, it became the labour exchange.
Port de Dole (Pass by)
You walk here along the port of Dole, where 30 pitches are put at the service of navigators wishing to discover this beautiful medieval town.
Dole (Pass by)
You have in front of you a very nice view of the houses in the historic centre of Dole and its majestic collegiate church overlooking it.
Jardin Botanique des Chevannes (Pass by)
Here you are in the pleasant garden of Chevannes. Built in 1998 in place of the old city walls, it is a very nice place to walk in the historic heart.
Quai Pasteur (Pass by)
You walk along the canal on a quay named after the famous Louis Pasteur, creator of the rabies vaccine, who was born nearby. It is one of the most picturesque places in Dole, ideal for strolling along the water and the restaurants and cafes that are there.
Grande Fontaine (Pass by)
At the heart of this underground passage is the so-called Grande Fontaine, a spring that was converted into a wash house during the 18th century. But the fountain dates from the 13th century, since it is mentioned as early as 1274.
Le Doubs (Pass by)
Here ends the canal from the Rhone to the Rhine, which flows into the Doubs, the river that gave its name to the neighbouring department of Jura.
Musee des Beaux-Arts de Dole (Pass by)
The building in front of you, built in the 18th century, was once the Officers’ Pavilion and was part of the former Dole Castle. It has a beautiful architecture typical of the 18th century.
Cours Saint-Mauris (Pass by)
Here you are on the pleasant Cours Saint-Mauris, a beautiful promenade that marks the entrance to the historic centre of Dolois. It was laid out in the 18th century, in place of the old city walls, removed in the 17th.
Theatre Municipal de Dole (Pass by)
This beautiful theatre is the cultural symbol of the city. Built between 1840 and 1843, it was designed with an Italianate hall and elegant and imposing neoclassical architecture.
Chapelle des Jésuites (Pass by)
This is the facade of Dole's Jesuit chapel. It is part of the Collège de l’Arc, a group of educational institutions long occupied by the Jesuits.
Place aux Fleurs (Pass by)
This beautiful square is the heart of the historic centre. From here, you have a small gazebo overlooking the medieval streets that make up the town of Dole, but it is also here that you will discover the Fountain and Child, made by François Rosset in 1805.
Marche Couvert de Dole (Pass by)
You're passing Dole's Covered Point of Sale here. This building, built in 1883, took the place of the old Parliament of the city, which had been here since 1422.
Collegiale Notre-Dame de Dole (Pass by)
It overlooks the city from its 73 metres high: Notre-Dame Collegiate Church is the most imposing building in the former Jura capital. It was built in the 16th century and has two different architectures: Gothic and Renaissance.
Musée Pasteur / Maison natale de Pasteur (Pass by)
Meet the famous Louis Pasteur, the French scientist, chemist and physicist who created the rabies vaccine in 1885. It is one of the first vaccines to be used in human medicine, along with smallpox, and will lead to the development of many other vaccines in the future.
La fresque des Dolois (Pass by)
Look at the house on your right: it's a beautiful trompe l'oeil you have there! Painters from the Haut les Murs collective created this fresco in 2017.
Dole Hôtel-Dieu Public Library (Pass by)
You pass along the pleasant Canal des Tanneurs on your left and the imposing Inn Dieu de Dole on your right. This former hospital was built in the 17th century: it reveals a beautiful Renaissance architecture Franco-Comtoise.
Place Jules Grevy (Pass by)
Place Jules Grévy is surrounded by several beautiful mansions dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It was in 1764 that the square was built here, in the heart of Dole and at the crossroads of the roads that lead to Dijon, Besançon, Chalon or Geneva.
