A hike of about 3 hours in Valpelline to learn about local history and the use of donkeys in agriculture and mining. We start from the square in Valpelline, accompanied by donkeys, and head towards Lanver, passing by a historic foundry. You will learn how donkeys are used for the transport of materials and food. The experience includes hands-on activities, and you can book an aperitif or a final food tasting.
The experience begins in the square of Valpelline, where participants will meet the guide and the donkeys. After a brief introduction to the valley and the pack animals, the donkeys and the equipment for the hike will be prepared. The route leads towards the Lanver slope along paths and areas linked to the valley's mining history. During the walk, the mining activities of the Ollomont copper mines and the operation of the historic Valpelline foundry, in front of which part of the experience will take place, will be described.
You will learn how donkeys and mules were used to transport minerals, farm gear, and food. Participants will also be able to try traditional activities such as leading donkeys and preparing a field.
At the end of the hike, those who wish to do so can enjoy an aperitif or a food tasting of typical products from the Aosta Valley.
