What you can expect
Discover two of Uganda’s most captivating natural experiences on the shores of Lake Victoria. This half-day adventure combines the tranquil beauty of Mabamba Swamp—home to the legendary Shoebill Stork—with a scenic boat journey to Equator Island, where you can stand between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
Located along the peaceful northern shores of Lake Victoria near Entebbe, Mabamba Swamp is one of Uganda’s most celebrated eco-tourism destinations. This protected wetland is internationally recognised as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance and is famed for offering one of the best opportunities in Africa to see the remarkable Shoebill Stork in its natural habitat.
Your journey begins with a comfortable hotel pick-up and transfer to Nakiwogo Landing Site. From here, you board a motorised boat and cruise across Lake Victoria before entering Mabamba’s peaceful papyrus channels.
Guided by experienced local experts, you glide quietly through narrow waterways in search of the elusive Shoebill Stork—an extraordinary bird known for its massive shoe-shaped bill and prehistoric appearance. Mabamba ’s rich ecosystem supports more than 260 bird species, including African jacanas, malachite kingfishers, bee-eaters, and herons, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers.
After exploring the wetland, continue your adventure with a scenic speedboat cruise across the vast waters of Lake Victoria to Equator Island (Lwaji Island). As you travel across the lake, enjoy spectacular views of fishing boats, small islands, and abundant birdlife, including the majestic African Fish Eagle soaring above the water.
Upon arrival at Equator Island, step ashore to visit the iconic monument marking the Equator—the invisible line dividing the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Capture memorable photos while standing astride both hemispheres and enjoy a short guided walk through the island’s peaceful natural surroundings.
After your exploration, relax on the return cruise to Nakiwogo Landing Site before your driver transfers you back to your hotel.
This experience blends wildlife discovery, scenic lake cruising, and geographical wonder—offering a memorable glimpse into Uganda’s remarkable natural heritage.
