The three northern queens of the archipelago, Razzoli, Santa Maria and Budelli, are a triumph of colours and silences. A natural sanctuary of rare beauty, the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park is the only geomarine park in Italy, guardian of a unique ecosystem in the world. The undisputed protagonist is the sea: 180 km of indented coastline, 60 islands and islets carved by the wind, crystal clear waters that fade from turquoise to emerald. Here, every corner tells a storey: from the underwater canyons of Spargi, a paradise for diving, to the Spiaggia Rosa in Budelli, famous for its coral grains and shells that dye the sand pink. Sailing through its coves, you can spot dolphins, sea turtles and migratory birds, while the commander will guide you to deserted coves where you can organise gourmet picnics or snorkelling sessions among tropical fish. The park is not just nature: it also houses historical remains, such as the remains of Roman ships and Napoleonic fortifications, perfect for a blast from the past between swims.
