What you can expect

Our tour begins in front of the imposing Croatian National Theatre, specifically at the “Well of Life,” a sculpture by the renowned Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović. After meeting the guide, we start exploring Republic of Croatia Square, the cultural heart of Zagreb, surrounded by landmarks like the University building, the Academy of Music, and the Museum of Arts and Crafts.

After learning about the square's history and significance, we head to the statue of Nikola Tesla, where we’ll hear fascinating details about his life and groundbreaking contributions. Next, we visit Flower Square (officially Petar Preradović Square), a favourite gathering spot for locals, known for its vibrant flower stands and lively cafés.

We then make our way towards the historical Upper Town on foot, arriving at Lotrščak Tower, a medieval defensive structure. Here, we'll hear the storey of the Grič cannon, which fires daily at noon.

Our walk continues through Ćirilometodska Street to St. Mark’s Square, the historic centre of Croatian governance. Here, we see the Croatian Parliament, the Government building, and the iconic St. Mark's Church, famous for its colourful roof depicting Croatia’s historical coats of arms. The guide will provide insight into the significance of these institutions.

Next, we visit the city's first pharmacy and pass through the mystical Stone Gate, the only preserved entrance to the old town, where many light candles in front of the painting of the Virgin Mary, Zagreb's patron saint. From there, we walk to the “Bloody Bridge,” a historic conflict site between Kaptol and Gradec, before arriving in the vibrant Tkalčićeva Street, lined with cafés, restaurants, and shops.

We continue to Dolac, Zagreb's most famous market, where you can experience the authentic local flavours and fresh products. Overlooking the market, we’ll see the majestic Zagreb Cathedral, a symbol of the city’s religious and historical heritage. We’ll explore its Gothic architecture and learn about its restoration after the recent earthquake.

Our final stops include a visit to the model of old Zagreb, where we'll gain a deeper understanding of the city's development, before concluding at Ban Jelačić Square, Zagreb's main square and central meeting point. This is where past and present converge, and where you can continue exploring the city at your own pace, enjoying its cafés and lively atmosphere.

This tour, led by our licensed local guides, offers a perfect blend of historical insight, cultural highlights, and captivating stories, providing a rich introduction to the charm and heritage of Zagreb.
