The Frankfurter Kunstverein is an interdisciplinary exhibition space for contemporary art and culture. It was founded in 1829 by citizens of Frankfurt as an independent art space that is not bound by any state-imposed or elitist understanding of art. Here, artists examine socially relevant issues of our time and broaden them with the perspective of science. At the Frankfurter Kunstverein, an inquisitive audience will find exhibitions that can be experienced through the senses and new perspectives on our present.

Propaganda in the era of “post-truth” is loud, fast and emotional. A battle for minds is raging both offline and online. A clash involving competing worldviews. It is about perceptions of who belongs and who is excluded, who we believe we are and want to be, and, ultimately, who decides over whom. What emerges in digital communities has an impact far beyond the screens: in societal debates, on the streets, and even at the ballot box.
How and where do we encounter propaganda today? What strategies, aesthetics and techniques are used to fight for people's beliefs and opinions? Who decides which narratives prevail? Which actors benefit from this, both politically and financially?
As so often before, we are examining the present day through the lens of art and science. To this end, we have invited seven internationally renowned artists and two research groups. With their respective approaches, they examine not only the content of contemporary and historical propaganda, but also its aesthetics, languages and forms of dissemination.
