What you can expect

  • An immersive and interactive space of 900 m² entirely dedicated to the world of Belgian fries and their key ingredient: the potato.
Frietmuseum Brussels is a fun, educational, and gourmet museum that offers a journey through the history, culture, and traditions of this iconic Belgian dish. Through more than 1,600 collection items, old posters, interactive games, films, and testimonials from fry cooks, you'll discover not only the history of the potato but also the evolution of the fry over time, as well as the secrets to cooking it perfectly.
Spread over three floors, the audio-guided tour (available in 11 languages) begins in Peru, the birthplace of the potato, before taking you on a world tour retracing the history of its cultivation in South America and Europe.

Halfway through, head to Frietland, a space entirely dedicated to Belgian fries. Here, traditions, folklore, and crispy anecdotes reveal the full art of the Belgian fry. The tour ends with a food tasting of authentic Belgian fries, cooked according to tradition. In exchange for your audio guide, you will receive a cone of fries cooked either in typical Belgian beef fat or in vegetable oil.
Visitors can capture their visit by taking a photo of themselves in a chip shop, in the middle of the potato harvest on a tractor, or next to XXL specialities.
Whether you're a food lover, curious about history, or simply fond of good fries, the Frietmuseum in Brussels is a must-visit destination. It celebrates a symbol of Belgian culture and reminds us that behind every crispy fry lies a fascinating storey!
