What you can expect

DAY 1: Cajamarca – Celendín – Leymebamba – Mallqui Centre Museum – Nuevo Tingo
5:00 a.m. Pick up from your accommodation and departure to the city of Leymebamba.
8:00 a.m. Arrival in Celendín, transfer to a local restaurant, breakfast (at the passenger's expense), continuation to Leymebamba.
12:00 p.m. Arrival in Leymebamba, lunch (at the passenger's expense).
1:00 p.m. Transfer to visit the Mallqui Centre Museum, which was built to preserve the mummies and archaeological materials recovered from the Laguna de los Cóndores in 1997. This work was carried out by the Mallqui Centre with contributions from the international community, as well as significant contributions from the Institute for Bioarchaeology, the Von Hagen family, and the Discovery Channel. The local community contributed with their labour and construction materials. The town of Leymebamba owns the museum and is represented by a civil association. The administrative and professional work at the museum is carried out by the Mallqui Centre, and it was inaugurated in June 2000.
3:00 p.m. Continuation of the trip to the town of Nuevo Tingo.
5:00 p.m. Arrival in Nuevo Tingo, transfer to accommodation, rest. HOTEL

DAY 2: Fortress of Kuélap – Cajamarca
6:30 a.m. Breakfast.
7:30 a.m. Transfer to the cable car terminal to Kuélap.
8:00 a.m. Transfer by bus from the boarding station to Platform No. 1; transport by cable car from Platform No. 1 to Platform No. 2.
8:25 a.m. Arrival and visit to the citadel of Kuélap, called La Fortaleza (The Fortress) and built on top of a high mountain, it is the most important archaeological site in the Peruvian mountain jungle. It appears to visitors as an impregnable place, surrounded by cliffs and precipices on three of its four sides, built in an area of beautiful landscapes that combine the heights of the Andes and the Amazon jungle, creating an incomparable spectacle. Kuelap is made up of two gigantic superimposed artificial platforms, on which a city was built covering an area of approximately 450 hectares. Seen from the air, its shape resembles an elongated bird's wing, measuring approximately 584 metres long by 120 metres wide. According to some construction experts, 25,000,000 cubic metres of material were used.
11:30 a.m. Descent by cable car from Platform No. 2 to Platform No. 1; bus transfer from Platform 1 to the boarding station in the town of Nuevo Tingo. Transfer to a restaurant.
12:00 p.m. Lunch in the town of Nuevo Tingo (at the passenger's expense).
1:00 p.m. Return to the city of Cajamarca.
9:00 p.m. Arrival in the city of Cajamarca and transfer to the accommodation.
