What you can expect
Day 1: (Travel about 400 km)
Depart Cape Town in the morning and travel along Route 62, passing vineyards and orchards along South Africa’s longest wine route. Stop at Van Loveren Wines for a tasting under shady trees - pairing cheese, chocolate or local treats & wine. Continue through the Klein Karoo’s wide-open landscapes to Oudtshoorn and explore the Cango Caves on a Heritage Tour. Arrive at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge for dinner on the deck overlooking the waterhole and spend the night in your luxury glamping tent under African starry skies. Overnight: Buffelsdrift Lodge
Day 2: (Travel about 300 km)
Awake to the sounds of wildlife and, if desired, join an early-morning Meerkat Safari (optional at extra cost) before breakfast. Meander along to Knysna and explore the Waterfront, walking to the Knysna Heads Viewpoint where forested cliffs meet the turquoise lagoon. Enjoy time for a leisurely lunch sampling fresh seafood and local specialities. In the afternoon, take a scenic walk through Wilderness National Park, spotting birdlife along trails through lush forests. End the day at a tranquil overnight spot overlooking Wilderness Beach and Indian Ocean, offering time to reflect and relax while soaking in the tranquil beauty of this coastal paradise.
Overnight: Mes Amis Guesthouse
Day 3: (Travel about 450 km)
After breakfast, head to Botlierskop Game Reserve for an exciting 4x4 safari across hills and valleys with a knowledgeable ranger. This 4,200-hectare reserve, with sweeping views of the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, is home to four of the Big Five and offers exceptional wildlife sighting opportunities. If you’re lucky, you may even spot Africa’s apex predators, the lions! Enjoy time for lunch at Botlierskop Lodge's restaurant surrounded by the natural safari setting to take time to reflect on the morning’s encounters. Continue to the tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the continent. Capture the iconic photo at the marker where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet, or dip your feet in the currents. If you arrive before sunset, watch the sky light up over the ocean, then unwind for the night at a nearby overnight sea-side stay. Overnight: Ocean House
Day 4: (Travel about 400 km)
Wake to the sound of waves and enjoy breakfast before heading to Hermanus, renowned for land-based whale watching. Stroll cliff-top paths through indigenous fynbos to perfect vantage points, spotting southern right and humpback whales during season, or explore the town’s galleries, craft shops, and scenic streets outside of whale season. From July to November, join an (optional with extra cost) whale cruise for a closer encounter while respecting marine conservation. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at waterfront cafés before concluding your Garden Route adventure meandering along scenic Clarence Drive, where the ocean stretches endlessly against dramatic mountain slopes to return by early evening in Cape Town.
