In this Jeep Tour, you will have the chance to discover the iconic Plateau of Freita Mountain in a unique way, a 4x4 Jeep. By road and some off-road experiences you will travel in a route that will show some of the main places of interest of the Arouca UNESCO Geopark. Through some archaeological sites like “Portela da Anta” and “Calçada Romana”, geological phenomenons such as “Birth Giving Stones”, “Giant Potholes”, “Bread Rocks” and “Frecha da Mizarela” (The highest waterfall in mainland Portugal) and some unique panoramas like “Detrelo da Malhada” you will get the opportunity to know more of this interesting territory all the while taking in the beautiful sceneries all around you!
Arouca Geopark
The Arouca Geopark, it's a classified territory recognised by UNESCO from 2009, that gathers 41 Geosites within an area of 328 square kilometres. It defines Arouca as a territory with a special Geological Heritage, where you can find phenomena such as “Birthing Stones” and “Giant Trilobite Fossils” that are unique on the world and others like “Frecha da Mizarela”, the highest waterfall in mainland Portugal, the “Corn Bread Stones” or the “Union Stones”, and some more amazing attractions!
The Jeep Tour
This tour will start in Porto, where you will meet your professional driver that will take you high up on the mountains in the Arouca Unesco Geopark, straight to your meeting point with your Activity Guide. After a brief explanation on how the activity will proceed, your guide will drive you, in a 4x4, across the Freita Mountain, showing you all along the way the aspects that make this Mountain so interesting and beautiful. Along the way you will find times to relax, times to take photos of the impressive views, times to know more of the culture and history of the area and on some locations even see the ocean. At the end of your adventure, your guide will take you into Arouca Centre where you will have the opportunity to try one of Arouca's best dishes, before your driver dropping you on Porto.
The Transfer from Porto
You will driven by a professional driver, in a modern and comfortable van, from Porto city centre to the mountain area of Arouca. This drive takes about 1 hour in total, being half of it in high ways.
Typical Lunch - Arouca Great Gastronomy!
After the Tour, you'll delight yourself with the traditional “Arouquesa Roasted Veal”, in a typical restaurant (included in the option “With Lunch”). For desert, you'll taste some of the ancient Conventual Pastry, next to it's origin, the Arouca's Santa Maria Monastery.
