Get away from Ushuaia and into the wild landscapes of Tierra del Fuego on a guided trek to the famous Laguna Esmeralda.
After pickup from your accommodation, travel towards the Tierra Mayor Valley, where the trail begins.
The route takes you through native lenga forest, open peatlands and Fuegian valleys before following the Esmeralda River towards the lagoon.
The landscape changes throughout the hike, from dense forest to open mountain valleys and wetland areas. Your local trekking guide will help you understand the natural environment, including the characteristic flora, fauna and landscapes of Tierra del Fuego.
After approximately 5 km of hiking, you will reach Laguna Esmeralda, surrounded by mountains and forest.
Take some time to enjoy the scenery, take photos and have your box lunch with a hot drink before beginning the return hike.
Back at the trailhead, your vehicle will take you to Ushuaia and drop you off at your accommodation.
A real Fuegian trekking experience
Laguna Esmeralda is not a paved walking trail. Sections of the route can be wet and muddy, particularly after rain or during snowmelt.
This is part of what makes the experience a genuine Tierra del Fuego trekking adventure.
Proper waterproof trekking boots and waterproof outdoor clothing are essential.

No technical mountaineering experience is required, but participants should be comfortable walking for several hours over uneven and sometimes wet natural terrain.
