What you can expect

Leaving York once a week, this excursion will take you into the heart of the English Lake District. Board the mini-coach in York and set off on your tour. Travel through the Yorkshire Dales to the Lake District National Park. Sit back and enjoy incredible views of the Lake District's largest lake, Windermere.

You'll travel along the shores of Ullswater, one of the most beautiful lakes in the area, surrounded by towering mountains and quaint villages. You'll head over Kirkstone Pass which offers breath-taking views of the surrounding landscape, and pass by Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England.

Next, you'll visit Hawkshead, a mediaeval village known for its charming streets and traditional architecture. Here, you'll have time to enjoy lunch and explore the local shops and cafes. The village was where William Wordsworth went to school, at the local grammar, now open to the public.

After lunch, the tour continues to Tarn Hows, a picturesque lake surrounded by rolling hills and forests. Head down past Coniston Water, a historic lake with more great scenery.

Finally, you'll visit Grasmere, a picturesque Lakeland village famous for its connections to the poet William Wordsworth and of course the world famous gingerbread. Here, you'll have a 45-minute break to explore the village, enjoying the local shops and great atmosphere.

The tour ends with a visit to Castlerigg Stone Circle, a prehistoric monument that offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Its one of the oldest in the country dating back over 4,000 years, you'll be in awe of the views and the history of the place.

Overall, this tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the best of the Lake District, with its stunning landscapes and fascinating heritage.
