Overview

This will be a tour to remember. Our local guides have lived and worked in the area for many years and are very knowledgeable of the flora, fauna, culture and history of the region.

The tour combines a little of all the best things that the Matobo Hills has to offer! Sweeping views of unique landscapes, hiking and Rhino tracking in the African bush, opportunities to view ancient rock art and the chance to visit traditional villages to gain insight into the local culture and history.

For the more adventurous explorers, there is the opportunity to indulge in some light rock climbing and bouldering where you will be rewarded with some magnificent views of the awe-inspiring countryside with its iconic balancing rocks.

Our guides are all passionate photographers so there is help available to aid in capturing that special moment for the family postcard or for your social media.

Our next stop is the historic site of the grave of Cecil John Rhodes in the heart of the park on a hill called Malindidzimu in the local Ndebele language. It is also known as Worlds View due to the panoramic views of the rugged terrain. In addition to Rhodes Grave you will be able to visit the monument to the Shangani Patrol as well as the final resting places of some of Rhodes' contemporaries. The views from this location are stunning and it is a popular place to stop and enjoy lunch due to the excellent picnic facilities available at the site. After lunch there may be a possibility of visiting a curio market and picking up a keepsake to remember your adventure!

The Matobo Hills are famous for their excellent and prolific examples of stone age rock art. After lunch at Malindidzimu some light activity is the order of the day in the form of a short climb to a cave nestled in the granite hills that has some spectacular examples of the ancient rock art of the San people. Guests will have the opportunity to view the paintings up close and benefit from a talk presented by your guide explaining some of the history and culture of the San people. As the light begins to fade it will be time to begin the return journey to Bulawayo where guests will be dropped off where they were picked up from.
