This adventure focuses on Madeira’s highest peaks, traditional houses, breathtaking landscapes, off-road trails, and unspoiled nature.
Our East Tour is the perfect way to explore the eastern side of Madeira Island. The journey starts in Funchal, heading first to Pico do Areeiro, the island’s third-highest peak at 1,818 metres. Here, guests can visit the Freira da Madeira Interpretation Centre and enjoy spectacular mountain views.
From Pico do Arieiro, we descend while passing Poço da Neve, an old icehouse once used to store ice for hotels, and the Poiso area, which historically served as a shelter for hikers and travellers crossing the island. We then leave the main roads and follow an old forest track off-road until reaching Ribeiro Frio, where we visit a trout farm and enjoy a short walk along the beautiful Levada dos Balcões, offering stunning views over the Laurissilva forest.
The adventure continues with another off-road section through nature and away from the beaten track, ending in Faial. In Santana, we visit two different types of the iconic Santana houses: the well-known touristic houses and a genuine traditional house, still owned by the same family for over 300 years, preserving its original furniture and authentic character.
After visiting Santana, it’s time for lunch. Our guides will recommend local restaurants for a pleasant and relaxed meal.
In the afternoon, the tour continues to the Guindaste Viewpoint, featuring a glass platform that gives the sensation of floating above the ocean, with incredible views over the sea, Faial, and Caniçal.
To finish the tour, we head to the Pico do Facho viewpoint in Ponta de São Lourenço, a place of great historical importance to Madeira, offering outstanding views over Machico and the impressive Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport built over the sea.
