The Gaetano Filangieri Civic Museum is a unique place in the world. It was founded in 1882 by Gaetano Filangieri, Prince of Satriano (1824–1892), and opened to the public in 1888. It is housed in the 15th-century Palazzo Como, a rare example of Renaissance architecture in Naples, popularly known as the “walking palace” because, to allow for the construction of what is now Via Duomo, the original façade was moved approximately twenty metres. The museum displays around three thousand works, including paintings, sculptures, weapons, porcelain, majolica, furniture, and clothing, as well as an extensive library and a historical archive.
