Learn to windsurf in Rusheen Bay, a sheltered, shallow inlet off Galway Bay around 5 km from Galway City Centre. This 2-hour lesson is designed for total beginners and for anyone returning after a break, with coaching that moves at your pace. Expect a mix of on-the-water practice and land-based simulator drills to build technique and confidence. All equipment is supplied, including board and sail, plus a wetsuit, boots, and a lifejacket. Bring a towel, swimwear (togs/shorts), and warm clothes for after your session.
Start by meeting at Rusheen Bay to check in and get fitted with your gear. Your instructor begins with simple technique sessions on land, covering balance, stance, and basic handling before you head onto the water. Then spend the bulk of your time on the bay’s flat water, practising steering, short runs, and controlled turns with hands-on guidance and feedback throughout. Choose the setup that suits you best: a group lesson for a shared, social session, or a private lesson for more one-to-one coaching and a pace tailored to your goals.
Lessons typically run on Saturdays and Sundays (12:00–14:00 or 14:00–16:00). Evening group lessons may run on Tuesdays or Thursdays (18:30–20:00) if there is enough demand. Times and availability are weather and tide dependant, so advance booking is essential.
Your lesson ends back at Rusheen Bay, where you return your equipment and you’re free to continue exploring Galway.
