What you can expect

This itinerary is truly magnificent. Although it is not extremely demanding, it takes place at a very high altitude and leads to the vast territories that are the true essence of the Gran Paradiso. We will start from the beautiful Nivolet basin at 2600 metres, straddling Piedmont and the Aosta Valley, and climb up to the wonderful Rosset and Tre Becchi lakes, and then to the glacial plateaus that become increasingly barren at an altitude of 2900 metres. The last part towards the 3080 metres of the Colle is more rugged, with steep trail tracks that are a bit challenging: but the view from the Colle and the surrounding environment are worth every effort! The total ascent is 550 metres, first on a good trail and then on steep paths over sand and rocks. Although it is an overall undemanding trip, take into account the altitude and some technical sections in the last part: it is better not to suffer from vertigo! You will be accompanied by an Official Park Guide who will describe the nature around you and keep a leisurely pace so that everyone can reach the destination. You will return to the same point as the departure. It is advisable to arrive in the area with the Park's free shuttle buses because the number of cars that can access the Hill in August is limited and subject to registration.
