Activity itinerary

Porta San Francesco (Pass by)
Porta San Francesco or Porta del Paese is an ancient guard post in Città di San Marino built in 1361, in ancient times it represented the main access to the city.
Cava dei Balestrieri
  • 5m
The Cava dei Balestrieri is a historic landmark of the city a few steps from the cable car stop. Its initial use (in the last twenty years of the nineteenth century) was precisely as a quarry for the recovery of materials and for the extraction of the stone necessary for the restoration of the nearby Palazzo Pubblico. Later, according to the project proposal of architect Gino Zani in 1935, it would be used as a place on which to erect a new Palazzo degli Uffici. With the Second World War and the bombings of 1944 this project was definitively abandoned and only the high base that supports the road remained and that today is part of the Monument to the Fallen.
Palazzo Pubblico

  • Admission ticket not included
Rebuilt in neo-gothic style in 1894 to a design by architect Francesco Azzurri, on the foundations of the oldest "Magna Domus Communis", it was restored in 1996 by the architect Gae Aulenti. The people of San Marino recognise in this place where the Captains Regent, the Great and General Council, the State Congress and the most important civil demonstrations are based.
Basilica del Santo Marino
  • 5m
Built at the beginning of the 19th century on the foundations of the pre-existing Romanesque Pieve. Rich in statues and valuable paintings. The statue of San Marino is the work of Adamo Tadolini, favourite pupil of Canova; the high altar contains the urn with the relics of the saint.
Orti Borghesi San Marino
  • 5m
The numismatist and naturalist Bartolomeo Borghesi created the Orti Borghesi, a green garden with a beautiful fountain in the company of tranquility. Also, don't miss the outdoor terrace which offers a 360-degree view of both the Romagna coast and the Marche inland, ideal for buffets.
Guaita Tower
First San Marino fortress dating back to before the 11th century. Enlarged and restructured in various eras, it experienced its greatest importance in the fifteenth century during the war against the Malatesta of Rimini (1463), the last fought by the San Marino citizens as allies of the dukes of Urbino and the Papacy. Officially used as the headquarters of the Guardia di Rocca in 1754, it was used as a prison for centuries, until 1975.
Passo Delle Streghe
  • 5m
The crossing of what is called Il Passo delle Streghe offers a unique and breathtaking view.
