What you can expect

This tour will bring you closer to the history, legends and folklore of Tiber Island and Trastevere. We will lead you to the hidden wonders of its squares, hidden gems, churches and monuments. The visit will start from Fabricio Bridge, where you will meet our expert guide, ready to take you to the Tiber Island. You will cross Ponte Fabricio, the oldest Roman bridge still in use, which connects the left bank of the river with the island. You will travel back in time to retrace the steps of the Greeks and Romans and discover the events that took place on this small strip of land. Visiting it, you will discover all the stories about its origins and better understand what many believe is the smallest inhabited island in the world. The tour will continue with a walk through Rome’s prettiest neighbourhood: Trastevere. On your way, you will come across the Basilica of San Crisogono, one of the oldest Roman basilicas. The walk continues to Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere with its splendid Basilica, the first official place of Christian worship in Rome. Left the Basilica, your tour will continue to discover the romantic and typical alleys and Piazza San Cosimato, with its homonymous church dating back to the 10th century (visited from the outside). Walking through the alleys you will reach Piazza San Francesco d’Assisi, where you will admire the beautiful Baroque Church of San Francesco a Ripa, a place of great spirituality. The beautiful Baroque church houses the cell, now a Sanctuary, where St Francis was received during his papal visits to Rome. San Francesco a Ripa is also a place of art, where priceless artworks such as Bernini’s “Estasi della Beata Ludovica” (The Ecstasy of the Blessed Ludovica) or the works of Giorgio De Chirico are collected and preserved. Your experience will end passing by the Basilica of Santa Cecilia, patron saint of musicians, on your way back to the Tiber Island.
