What you can expect
Experience Hakone at one of its most beautiful times of year on a guided autumn walk combining Lake Ashi, Hakone Shrine, the iconic lakeside torii, historic cedar paths, and colourful mountain scenery.
Meet your guide at Motohakone Port and begin beside Lake Ashi, surrounded by forested mountains glowing with autumn colours. On clear days, you may also see Mt. Fuji rising beyond the lake.
Continue to the famous lakeside torii of Hakone Shrine, one of Hakone’s most recognisable views. See the vivid red gate standing beside the water against the backdrop of Lake Ashi and the surrounding mountains.
Please note that there may be a wait for photos at the torii during busy periods.
Then enter the forest and walk towards Hakone Shrine.
Follow stone steps beneath towering cedar trees and traditional lanterns as the open lake scenery changes into a peaceful sacred forest.
Explore the shrine grounds while learning about its history, local traditions, and Hakone’s long connection to travellers crossing the mountains between Edo and Kyoto.
Continue towards the historic Old Tokaido Cedar Avenue.
Walk beneath centuries-old cedar trees along part of the former Tokaido route once travelled by samurai, merchants, pilgrims, and feudal lords.
In autumn, the deep green cedars, colourful leaves, mountain air, and historic path create a completely different atmosphere from the lakeside.
Finish at Onshi-Hakone Park, where forest paths and seasonal scenery lead to viewpoints overlooking Lake Ashi and the surrounding mountains.
On clear days, this area can also offer beautiful views towards Mt. Fuji.
The contrast is the heart of the experience: colourful Lake Ashi, the iconic red torii, sacred forest, ancient cedar avenue, and panoramic mountain scenery—all connected in one autumn walk.
Your guide can help take natural travel photos using your own smartphone or camera, but photography is a supporting part of the experience rather than the main focus.
Autumn foliage and Mt. Fuji visibility depend on seasonal and weather conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
The exact route may be adjusted depending on weather, crowding, trail conditions, or local access.
