Celebrate the beauty of spring in Kyoto through a seasonal tea ceremony inspired by cherry blossoms.
This special spring experience takes place in a 150-year-old Kyoto machiya, where the tea room is arranged with sakura flowers, seasonal incense, and elegant tea bowls in soft spring colours.
Before the ceremony begins, guests receive a short introduction to machiya architecture and Kyoto lifestyle, helping you understand how seasonal design and aesthetics are reflected in Japanese culture.
Guests are comfortably seated on chairs (no kneeling required) while a tea practitioner with over 16 years of training performs a live table-style tea ceremony. Each movement and utensil is explained in clear English, making the cultural meaning easy to understand.
After watching the demonstration, guests will also have the opportunity to prepare their own bowl of matcha using traditional tea utensils, guided step by step by the instructor.
The matcha is served with delicate spring-themed Japanese sweets specially selected for the season.
With a maximum of 6 guests, the atmosphere remains calm and intimate, allowing time for photos, questions, and relaxed conversation.
This extended experience offers a deeper way to enjoy Kyoto’s spring atmosphere while learning the beauty and techniques of Japanese tea culture.
