Sundowner Tour: Experience Heidelberg Castle in the evening light and enjoy the panorama from the Königstuhl with a glass of wine.

Heidelberg is one of Germany's most beautiful cities and captivates visitors from all over the world. Its unique location in the Neckar Valley, its historic old town and the majestic castle ruins form a backdrop that once inspired the poets of the Romantic period.

Taking the funicular up to the castle

The Heidelberg funicular is an attraction in itself. We take the lower funicular, one of the most modern funiculars in Germany, from Kornmarkt to the castle in just a few minutes. Heidelberg Castle, the epitome of German Romanticism, stands majestically above the city. A walking tour through the castle's inner courtyard and garden reveals the eventful history of the former residence of the Electors Palatine.

World records and the history of pharmacy in the castle grounds

Two special highlights await within the castle walls: In the Royal Hall building, there is access to the cellar, which houses the legendary Great Barrel. This largest fillable wine barrel in the world was made in the 18th century from 130 oak trunks and holds over 219,000 litres of wine. Right afterwards, the German Pharmacy Museum invites you on a journey through time. The exhibits offer fascinating insights into the history of medicine from antiquity to the 21st century.

Taking the mountain railway up to the Königstuhl

The upper, nostalgic funicular takes us on a slow, steep ride up to the Königstuhl. Once you reach an altitude of 568 metres, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city. When the weather is good, Heidelberg’s local mountain offers breathtaking views over the Neckar Valley, the Rhine Plain and sometimes even as far as the Vosges Mountains. We will enjoy this breathtaking view with a glass of wine (or, alternatively, grape juice or water) before the comfortable van takes us back down to the starting point.
