This tour begins at Himeji Station, located near the former outer moat that once served as the first line of defence for this grand fortress. As we head towards the castle, you will get a true sense of the sheer scale and strategic layout of the fortification.
Our first key stop is the rooftop of Egret Himeji. Here, you can admire the harmony between beauty and architecture. While the Main Keep is breathtaking, take a special look at the Nishinomaru (West Bailey) to your left.
This was once the residence of Princess Sen (Senhime), the granddaughter of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo period. After learning about her poignant life storey, we will enjoy playing Hanetsuki (traditional Japanese badminton), a game she was fond of. On this same rooftop, you can also step into the shoes of a Samurai warrior and experience the mindset of the bushi who once stood guard here.
Our unique “two-in-one” approach allows you to explore the fortress while personally connecting with the souls of those who lived there. Experience the raw power of a warlord’s battle cry, the tender devotion of Princess Sen, and the thrilling ghost-hunting legends of ancient masters.
Once inside the castle grounds, we will make our way up to the top of the Main Keep. Along the way, we will dive deep into:
Architectural Mastery: The intricate details and aesthetic choices.
Defence Systems: The ingenious traps and layouts designed to repel enemies.
Strategic Location: Understanding why this specific site was chosen as a seat of power.
Legends and Figures
As we walk, we will share fascinating stories about the people connected to the castle, including the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi and his mysterious encounter with a local ghost.
Don't just see the castle—experience its spirit.
