Today, we drive to Kharkhorin, the historic site of the once-great capital of the Mongol Empire. While little remains of the original city, the area holds deep cultural significance. In 1586, King Avtai Sain established the Erdene Zuu Monastery on the ruins of ancient Kharkhorin.
Known as the “Hundred Treasures Monastery,” Erdene Zuu is Mongolia’s oldest Buddhist monastery.
