DAY 1: Arrival at the Angamos Community
Your adventure begins with pickup from your hotel or the Iquitos airport and transfer to Air Group No. 42 of the Peruvian Air Force. From there, you will board a small plane or seaplane for an approximately one-hour flight over the Peruvian Amazon, enjoying breathtaking views of rivers, forests, and natural landscapes.
Upon arrival at the Angamos community, located near the border with Brazil, you will be greeted by members of the Matsés indigenous people, who will welcome you and offer an introduction to their culture and traditions. Afterwards, you will settle into your accommodation to rest and prepare for the days of the expedition.
DAYS 2-13: Total Immersion in Matsés Culture
Over the next few days, you will navigate the Amazonian rivers until you enter the ancestral territory of the Matsés Reserve, one of the most remote and best-preserved areas of the Amazon. Throughout the expedition, you will live alongside Matsés families, participating in activities that are part of their daily lives and fostering a genuine cultural exchange.
You will participate in agricultural work, learn traditional fishing techniques, and discover the ancestral uses of plants used for generations. Hikes through the rainforest will allow you to observe birds, monkeys, amphibians, and an extraordinary diversity of flora, while the Matsés guides share their knowledge of biodiversity and survival in the rainforest.
At nightfall, you will go on safaris to observe caimans, snakes, frogs, and other nocturnal species. You will also travel along rivers and lakes in traditional canoes to contemplate the Amazonian wildlife from a unique perspective. Each day will conclude with stories and legends shared by the elders around the campfire, as well as the opportunity to purchase authentic handicrafts or, optionally, participate in traditional Matsés tribal ceremonies.
DAY 14: Return to Angamos
After saying goodbye to the Matsés Reserve, we will begin our return journey, navigating the Amazonian rivers until we reach the community of Angamos again. There, we can rest, share some final moments with the community, and reflect on the experiences of the expedition.
DAY 15: Return to Iquitos
After breakfast, we will board a small plane or seaplane to return to the city of Iquitos. During the flight, we will enjoy one last panoramic view of the Amazon rainforest before concluding this unique experience of living with the Matsés people, taking with us unforgettable memories and a profound understanding of one of the most authentic indigenous cultures of the Amazon.
