What you can expect
Our full day Island Discovery Tour is a complete whistle stop experience of the Isle of Man, including a stop for lunch. Travelling along some of the world famous TT course, we'll visit famous landmarks from the north to the south of the island.
Starting in Laxey, we discover how Laxey evolved from an insignificant sleepy fishing village to the centre of a lucrative mining community with Lady Isabela, the largest surviving water wheel in the world, standing as a bold statement turning to keep the mines free of water. Here we have time to explore the Wheel.
From Laxey, we venture onto Maughold, situated in a stunning area of natural beauty, we can explore a unique blend of Celtic and Viking heritage as we view some remarkable examples of carved stone crosses and explore the remnants of the first monastery on the island dating back to the 6th century.
Stopping in Ramsey, we'll see a bustling working harbour and a Victorian swing bridge; we’ll also encounter miles of sandy beaches and bays, now a protected marine nature reserve.
Heading towards the west of the island, we’ll venture to Peel with its stunning backdrop of the ancient castle, fishing harbour and sandy bay. We can wander through the quaint streets with their tiny fishing cottages or around the castle, keeping a look out for the Atlantic grey seals or our resident bottlenose dolphins, Moonlight and Starlight. Option to buy local gifts from the House of Manannan and see a replica Viking Ship, long and round house.
Making our way towards the centre of the island, we'll see Tynwald Hill. Tynwald is believed to have been established by Norse Viking settlers over a thousand years ago making it the oldest continuous parliament in the world. The hill is now one of the island’s most Iconic landmarks symbolising Isle of Man’s independence. There is a wealth of history to explore in this area including the Royal Chapel, a Giant’s grave and the Ballaharra Neolithic stones.
Venturing to the Southern tip of the island, we'll discover The Sound which overlooks one of the most dangerous sections of water stretching to the Calf of Man, now a nature reserve with abundant wildlife.
Overlooking the Calf, Cregneash was one of the last strongholds of the Manx language; We can wander amongst the thatched Manx cottages, that contain a living folk museum, where there is a chance to see two of our favourite Manx animals, a cat with no tail and Loaghtan Sheep.
Lastly we'll visit Castletown, the island’s ancient capital which is wrapped around what is said to be the best-preserved medieval castle in Europe. We can take a stroll around the attractive harbour and picturesque lanes with their seaside cottages or venture inside the castle.
The tour timings allow for time at each destination and travel between points of interest as well as opportunity for refreshments / comfort stops and to purchase souvenirs.
Entrance to Heritage Sites included (E.g Castles and Museums)
