What you can expect

Walking one of the great historic European routes has a very special charm! The Via Francigena starts in Canterbury and ends at St. Peter's in Rome: its Italian section passes through some of the most beautiful landscapes in our country. The entry stages from Switzerland, through the “legendary” Great St. Bernard Pass, at an altitude of over 2,400 metres, mark a border between the world beyond the Alps and the Mediterranean world, and are two days of evocative walking on fairly easy trails. Therefore, they are suitable for almost everyone. The landscape changes with every step, and from the snows of the Colle it leads to the sunny basin where Aosta lies: a city rich in extraordinary monuments from the Roman and Medieval periods. In the middle is the lush green valley of the Great St. Bernard with its stone villages, flowering pastures, and the cool network of “ru”, the ancient canals that carry water from the peaks to the plain.
