What you can expect

Meet your guide at Keikyu Daishi Station and begin your journey. Walk along the main approach (Omotesando) and head to the shopping street (Nakamise Street).

Learn about the history of the Keikyu Daishi Line, built over 120 years ago to transport people to the temple.

Discover the significance of the Daruma doll, a symbol of perseverance and good luck. Hear the rhythmic sound of sweets cutting, a demonstration of “Tontoko sweets,” a type of throat sweets. Smell the aroma of soya sauce from “senbei,” traditional rice crackers, and see stores selling “Kuzumochi,” a local sweet made from fermented wheat starch.

Next, head to the sacred precincts of Kawasaki Daishi Heikenji Temple. Pass through the Oyama Gate and explore the main sites. Learn about rituals and customs with respect and clarity.

Stop at the Chozuya, a symbolic place for purifying hands and mouth before visiting the main hall. See the large incense burner, believed to have purifying and healing powers.

Visit the main hall, where the principal deity is enshrined. Learn about the temple's fame for “Yakuyoke”.

Hear about the temple's founding in the 12th century and its dedication to the famous monk Kobo Daishi. If you wish, throw a coin into the offering box, bow your head, and pray with your hands together.

Walk to the beautiful five-story pagoda, a rare octagonal shape, and a great photo spot. If time allows, try your luck with “Omikuji,” a fortune-telling paper. If you draw a bad fortune, tie it to the shelf to leave the misfortune at the temple.

Finally, exit the precincts through a side path, visit Daishi Park, and return to the station.
