What you can expect
Discover Koggala Lake on a Private Boat Safari from Galle & Koggala.
Koggala Lake is one of Sri Lanka's largest coastal lagoons, known for its 8 small islands, mangrove forests, cinnamon cultivation and bird life. This private nature experience is ideal if you are staying in Galle, Unawatuna, Koggala, Ahangama or Mirissa and looking for a calm half-day tour.
Hosted by local expert Tharindu and operated with a local captain who knows the lake well.
YOUR PRIVATE ITINERARY:
Start from Koggala: Meet at the lake meeting point for a safety briefing and start of your private cruise.
Mangrove Tunnels Exploration: Cruise through natural mangrove tunnels and open lagoon areas. Learn how the mangrove ecosystem supports the lake.
Wildlife & Bird Observation: Keep an eye out for wildlife that lives around the lake. You may observe purple-faced langurs in the trees, water monitor lizards on the banks, and birds such as kingfishers, herons, cormorants and eagles. Sightings are in their natural habitat, observed from a respectful distance and are not guaranteed. Perfect for nature photography.
Cinnamon Island: Visit the famous Cinnamon Island. Meet a local family and see how Ceylon cinnamon is peeled and prepared. Support local production.
Temple Island: Visit the small Buddhist Temple Island in the middle of the lake with nice views over Koggala Lake.
Return to Koggala.
OUR BOAT - CLEAN & QUIET:
We operate with a clean 4-stroke petrol engine, not a kerosene engine. This means a quieter ride with low smoke and low smell, less disturbance for birds and wildlife, and a more comfortable experience for families and photographers. The boat is a traditional low boat suitable for the shallow lagoon.
GOOD TO KNOW:
Sunset Option: Afternoon time is recommended for calm water, reflections and soft light for photography.
Family Friendly: Suitable for families with children, couples and small groups. Life jackets provided for all ages.
Photography: The private boat can slow down or stop in key observation areas.
Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours on the lake.TRANSPORT: Meeting point is at Koggala Lake. Transport is not included in the price. If you need a vehicle from Galle, Unawatuna, Mirissa, we can help arrange a car tuk tuk or van at PickMe rate. You pay directly to the driver. Please contact us after booking.
WHAT IS INCLUDED: Private boat for your group only, local captain, safety jackets, island contribution, bottled water.
WHAT TO BRING: Sun hat, sunglasses, sun cream, camera.IMPORTANT: This is a nature tour. Wildlife sightings depend on weather and natural movement. We follow animal welfare guidelines: we keep distance, we do not feed wildlife and we do not use bait. We follow a no-plastic, no-litter policy and support local island families.
Private boat - no sharing with strangers.
