Your adventure begins with a scenic 2 to 3-hour guided hike through lush forest trails, where you’ll discover the beauty of Costa Rica’s wildlife and vegetation. As you walk alongside a mesmerising blue river, your guide will point out native plants, birds, and perhaps even monkeys. The trail includes exciting natural obstacles like caves, small climbs, and river crossings, adding to the fun.
The highlight of the journey is reaching La Leona Waterfall, a beautiful and unique spot where the blue river flows through a narrow canyon surrounded by stunning rock formations. While swimming is not possible directly under the main waterfall, the experience of standing in front of it and exploring the surrounding natural landscape is truly unforgettable. The hike offers scenic views, river crossings, and a deep connection with nature — perfect for those who enjoy outdoor adventures and discovering hidden natural beauty.
The hike starts and ends near Curubandé, a small town in the Guanacaste province. No previous hiking experience is necessary, but we recommend wearing light, sporty clothing and water shoes or hiking sandals. Bring water, a towel, and a waterproof bag if you have one — and get ready for one of the most beautiful hidden gems in Costa Rica!
