The largest lake in Limousin, a veritable inland sea perched on the Millevaches Plateau, Lake Vassivière straddles the departments of Creuse and Haute-Vienne.
This road trip in your own vehicle will treat your eyes to a wide variety of landscapes. If you pick me up upstream from the lake, in Creuse, we can make a few stops on the way there and back to discover waterfalls and other local heritage sites.
Once there, our goal will be to make an (almost) complete tour of the lake, stopping at each point of interest: panoramic views, the dam, a deserted beach nestled in a secluded cove, peninsulas, hills overlooking the lake, and more. We'll take advantage of the midday break to picnic on the beach or have lunch at one of the many terraces along the lake shore—or even on the lake itself!
After crossing a long footbridge, we'll stop off at the iconic Île de Vassivière, home to the castle and the International Centre for Art and Landscape, with its many installations surrounded by nature.
Enjoy a unique and refreshing day, which you can perhaps round off with a swim…
