What you can expect

Fritz Koenig is considered one of the most significant sculptors of the twentieth century. In and around Landshut, the trails that lead around the world begin: “The Sphere” in New York, “Kugelkopf II” in Dekar, “Großer Teller IV” in Yokohama, to name just a few of his works around the globe. A veritable multitude of his works can be found in many German cities. One year after his death, a major retrospective was held at the Uffizi Gallery and in the Boboli Gardens in Florence. His footsteps always lead back to Landshut, the centre of Fritz Koenig's life. Most of his artworks were created in Ganslberg, near Landshut. There is hardly any other place where his work can be experienced as authentically as here in Landshut. This walking tour takes you to selected works in city centre Landshut and to the KOENIGmuseum, which is dedicated to him. Along the way, key themes, stylistic features, and developments in Koenig's work will be presented. At the same time, the tour provides insights into the artist's life, helping participants gain a better understanding of his personality and the significance of his art. Participants will become acquainted with both major works and lesser-known pieces.
The tour is intended for art enthusiasts as well as for anyone who would like to get to know the artist and his works in a vivid way.
During a walk through the city, we will encounter Fritz Koenig's works and his hometown, and we will gain a deeper understanding of his life and his intentions. We will get to know the locations, history, anecdotes and other notable figures of this historic city, spanning a period from the Middle Ages to the present day.
