What you can expect
Begin your journey in the vast waters of Isfjorden, the main fjord of Spitsbergen, where your Arctic adventure truly unfolds. Over the coming days, you will explore a network of spectacular fjords branching out into untouched wilderness, many of them ending in towering glaciers.
This is an expedition shaped by nature. Each day is dynamic and flexible, with activities such as wildlife watching, Zodiac landings, and trekking planned according to weather and ice conditions. No fixed itinerary - only the best possible experience.
Sail into Sassenfjorden and Tempelfjorden, cruising close to the shoreline in search of polar bears, Arctic foxes, and grazing reindeer. Keep watch for whales surfacing nearby. At the end of Tempelfjorden lies the impressive Tunabreen glacier, where you will witness dramatic calving as ice breaks into the sea.
Continue into Billefjorden, often visited by fin whales and belugas. Here, step ashore in the abandoned Soviet settlement of Pyramiden - a fascinating glimpse into Arctic history. Walk its silent streets, explore remnants of the past, and experience a truly unique atmosphere.
Nearby, approach the majestic Nordenskiöldbreen glacier, with its striking ice formations. On your way, stop at Skansbukta, a remote bay featuring a shipwreck and remnants of an old mining site.
Further north, venture into Nordfjorden, a protected nature reserve. Sail towards the active Sveabreen glacier, known for its frequent calving. If conditions allow, attempt a landing on the remote island of Coraholmen - wild, isolated, and rarely visited.
In Borebukta, encounter walrus colonies that have made this area their home. Watch them swim alongside the yacht or rest on the beaches. If possible, approach them carefully to observe their behaviour up close. Here, you may also land near the Nansenbreen glacier and explore its icy surroundings on foot.
Next, explore Ymerbukta and attempt to navigate through drifting ice towards the impressive Esmarkbreen glacier. Its wide front and active calving can create a spectacular natural show.
Your journey concludes in one of the most picturesque places in Svalbard - Trygghamna. Surrounded by dramatic mountains and dotted with small islands, this area offers a true “end-of-the-world” atmosphere. Here, you may trek towards a glacier separated from the fjord by islands, forming a serene, ice-filled lagoon.
Travelling by a small expedition yacht allows you to spend more time in places that matter, adapting to nature rather than following a rigid plan. This is Arctic exploration at its purest - immersive, flexible, and deeply personal.
Return to Longyearbyen on the afternoon of the final day, where your expedition ends with a well-earned rest and a shared farewell dinner.
Slow down. Explore deeply. Experience the Arctic as it truly is.
