Total distance: 25 km · Medium difficulty · Duration: 5 hours with stops
- Heading south:
We'll set off from Alpataco along the coastal Rambla and the quiet southern areas. On the left, you'll see CENPAT-CONICET and San Juan Bosco University, our city's science hubs. At CENPAT, there's a mural worth stopping for; on the right, the Atlantic sets our course.
- Plateau trails:
The pavement's behind us. We pedal among molles, jarillas, and coirones; if it rained the day before, the air smells of jarilla.
- Playa Paraná & the Folias shipwreck:
First break. In front of us is the hull of the fishing boat Folias, which ran aground in 1980 just 300 m from the coast; at low tide, its structure emerges completely. Perfect for photos and a mate by the sea.
- Punta Loma Seal Sanctuary:
After 5 km more of gravel, we'll reach the first protected area of Chubut. We'll leave the bikes and, from the viewpoint, we'll contemplate the permanent colony of fur seals: howls, dips, and black-necked cormorants in low flight. Interpretation talk + Patagonian snack.
- Coastal return:
We'll head back via Playa Paraná (lower area) to see the shipwreck in a different light and, with the slope in our favour, we'll pedal straight to Puerto Madryn. Perfect ending with a view of the gulf and a feeling of mission accomplished.
