What you can expect

Begin your walking tour at Stortorget, home to the historic Lejonet Pharmacy—operating for over 500 years. Continue through a charming passage with a uniquely styled restaurant that transforms into a lively, crowded venue with live music on weekend evenings. Nearby, visit St. Peter’s Church, Malmö’s oldest building dating back to the 14th century, and the impressive City Hall.

See the statue of Gustav Vasa and King Charles X Gustav, followed by one of Sweden’s oldest cinemas. Continue to Lilla Torg, Malmö’s most vibrant square, known for its cafés, restaurants, and lively atmosphere. Learn how it was originally established in the 16th century as a marketplace and later redesigned in 1995 with natural stone, giving it its charming appearance today.

Next, explore Gustav Adolfs Torg and admire the Five Fountains, a modern installation where fire replaces water during winter. See the “Playing Children” sculpture, the square’s oldest artwork from 1915, followed by the Öresund Fountain, known for its warm water that allows it to operate even in winter and creates striking ice formations in colder months.

Continue your walk past the Old Cemetery, established in 1822 and still in use today, before arriving at Malmö City Library — an impressive architectural landmark consisting of two parts: a historic section from over 100 years ago and a modern extension with large windows offering beautiful views of the surrounding park.

Finally, stroll through Kungsparken, Malmö’s oldest park, and enjoy views of the iconic Turning Torso, a striking twisted skyscraper and one of the tallest buildings in Sweden. Pass the historic Castle Mill, where you can take a memorable photo, and see one of the world’s largest insect hotels.

During the warmer months, the tour continues through the colourful Castle Garden and ends at a cosy outdoor café in the park. During the colder months, the tour finishes nearby at Malmö Castle, the historic Renaissance castle from the 15th century, where you can continue exploring the museum and learn more about Malmö’s history and regional culture.
