Kilim Geoforest Park Boat Tour Experience
Departure:
The adventure usually begins at the Kilim Jetty, where you’ll hop aboard a small, motorised boat, perfect for gliding through the winding mangrove rivers and limestone karst landscapes of Langkawi’s famous Kilim Geoforest Park — a UNESCO-recognized geopark.
Stop 1: Bat Cave (Gua Kelawar)
The first stop is the Bat Cave, a natural limestone cave tucked into the mangrove forest. As you enter, you’ll notice the cool, damp air and stalactites hanging from the ceiling. Look up, and you’ll see hundreds of tiny fruit bats hanging silently, undisturbed by visitors. A wooden walkway guides you through the cave and along the mangroves outside, offering a close-up look at the unique flora and fauna of the park.
Highlights:
Fruit bats resting on cave ceilings
Impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations
Short nature walk through mangroves
Stop 2: Floating Fish Farm
Next, you’ll visit a floating fish farm, built on wooden pontoons. Friendly guides will introduce you to a variety of marine life kept in netted enclosures in the water — everything from groupers and stingrays to horseshoe crabs and archerfish. You can even feed some of the fish and watch as archerfish spit jets of water to knock insects into the water.
Highlights:
Live demonstrations with stingrays and archerfish
Hands-on fish feeding experience
Insight into local aquaculture practices
Stop 3: Eagle Feeding
One of the most thrilling parts of the tour happens in an open bay surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, where the boat driver tosses pieces of chicken skin into the water. Within moments, majestic white-bellied sea eagles and brahminy kites swoop down from the skies in impressive displays of precision and power, grabbing the food from the surface of the water.
Highlights:
Dozens of eagles in action
Scenic limestone cliffs framing the experience
Great photo opportunities
Overall Vibe:
The boat ride itself is a serene journey through winding mangrove rivers, lush greenery, and towering cliffs. You’ll pass by hidden coves, and occasional wildlife like monitor lizards, kingfishers, and macaques.
