Overview

The highlight of this tour is Mikoshi(a portable shrine) Arai(purifying) in the river!
Before watching it, you can get a lot of information at the Chichibu Festival Museum. You can experience the immersive “Chichibu Night Festival” by watching projection mapping and videos, as well as a virtual experience of Chichibu's seasonal festivals in 3D theatre.
This is the only place to experience the immersive Chichibu Night Festival held on December 2nd and 3rd every year.
You will know about Kawase Festival, too
Chichibu shrine (one of the famous sacred sites in Saitama prefecture) has a history of over 2100 years. You can see magnificent carved sculptures as well as experience traditional Japanese culture by pulling a unique fortune slip.
On the grand festival day of this tour, beautiful floats and Kasaboko(floats with parasols) gather at the shrine and you can listen to the powerful Chichibu Yatai Bayashi(Festival Music).
Lastly you enjoy city centre Chichibu which has a nostalgic vibe.

Activity itinerary

12:00 pm Meeting (Chichibu Station of Chichibu Railway Company) 12:15 pm "Chichibu Matsuri Kaikan" (Festival Museum) This museum provides you with 3D theatre in English and projection mapping. You will know about the culture and the festivals in Chichibu. The guide loves Chichibu Yatai Bayashi (traditional festival music)so much and has been practising it for 36 years. 13:10 pm Chichibu Shrine which has impressive wood carvings on the eaves. You can see beautiful floats and Kasaboko(floats with parasols) gathering. And you can also listen to the powerful Chichibu Yatai Bayashi(festival music) played in the floats. 13:30 pm You will go to Arakawa River with Floats and Mikoshi to watch Mikoshi Arai (a portable shrine goes into the river.) 16:00 pm Go-cho Hikiwakare (5 Floats and Kasabokos will perform the ritual.) 17:00pm dismiss on site (Chichibu Shrine) ＊After dismissing, you can enjoy exploring city centre Chichibu: the quaint shops, cafes, local gourmet food and many food stands.
