The circular route starts from Prato delle Macinaie, where you can park your car in free or paid spaces. The hike will mainly take place in the majestic beech forests that cover Mount Amiata up to its summit. Along the way, you'll get to see and talk about the unique features of this mountain, from its geology to its plants and minerals. The storey of this fascinating place will be interspersed with landscapes and naturalistic views of great importance, which will culminate once you reach the summit of the mountain, at 1732 metres above sea level. The route isn't super exposed, so there aren't any obvious risks, but the paths, which are mostly well-trodden, have some bumpy and steep sections, so be careful when you're walking. Also, it can get slippery because of wet leaves, so watch your step. So, you'll need to wear closed-toe shoes with a sculpted, rigid sole, like hiking boots (good for both winter and summer) or trail shoes (only for summer). Gym shoes are definitely not the way to go. So, the hike is good for folks who've done some long-distance walking, but it's not really for kids unless they're used to walking 15 km or more in a day. The route is classified as type 'E' (hiking). The route is a loop, so it'll start and end at the same spot, which is also where you'll park your cars. The departure, depending on the period, is scheduled between 10:00 and 10:30 in the morning and the total duration of the trek is about five and a half hours, including the lunch break. Lunch, which will take place on the mountain top, can be a packed lunch or at one of the shelters on site, unless the context changes. Everyone can plan their own way, just let the Guide know your preference in advance.
