What you can expect

Experience El Tigre Waterfalls with the direct operators!, we are the authentic local team that created and manages these trails. This means you get genuine expertise, personalised service, and direct support from the people who know this cloud forest best.

Your adventure begins at our reception area, where our team welcomes you with a detailed map, essential safety tips, and personalised instructions for your journey. The route is clearly marked throughout, giving you the freedom to explore the pristine cloud forest at your own comfortable pace.

This 8-kilometer adventure combines 5 kilometres of scenic hiking with 3 kilometres on horseback or in a 4x4 safari vehicle. The entire experience takes approximately 3.5 hours and is designed for easy to moderate difficulty, making it accessible for most fitness levels. The trails are well-maintained and clearly marked, with some uphill sections that add a touch of adventure without being overwhelming.

As you hike through the lush cloud forest, you'll discover four spectacular waterfalls cascading through the jungle and cross nine charming rustic bridges, including exciting hanging bridges and natural tree bridges. Along the way, take time to cool off with a refreshing swim in crystal-clear natural river pools surrounded by tropical nature.

When you reach the final uphill section, choose your preferred way to continue: enjoy a scenic 25-minute horseback ride through the forest (no previous experience required, weight limit 110 kg or 250 lbs) or relax in our comfortable 4x4 safari car while taking in the mountain views.

Your adventure concludes with a delicious typical Costa Rican lunch at our restaurant, featuring panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. We offer hearty traditional dishes with vegetarian and vegan options available to suit all dietary preferences.

We're open daily from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm, with the last entry at 1:30 pm. One of the best parts? El Tigre Waterfalls is usually much quieter than the main Monteverde reserves. Even during peak seasons like Christmas, Easter, and mid-year holidays, our trails maintain a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere that lets you truly connect with nature.
