What you can expect
Discover two of North Macedonia’s most remarkable destinations on this full-day guided tour from Skopje to Ohrid and the Monastery of Saint Jovan Bigorski. With private transport and a carefully planned route, this Ohrid day trip from Skopje combines spiritual heritage, mountain landscapes, and centuries of history with the beauty of Lake Ohrid and the timeless charm of Ohrid’s UNESCO-listed old town.
Your journey begins with a morning pick-up in Skopje, followed by a scenic drive through western North Macedonia towards the Monastery of Saint Jovan Bigorski, one of the country’s most treasured Orthodox sites. Hidden among forested slopes above the Radika Valley, this remarkable monastery is known for its peaceful atmosphere, striking architecture, and extraordinary carved wooden iconostasis. Here, you will have time to explore the monastery grounds and take in the spirit of one of North Macedonia’s most important religious landmarks. If you wish, you may also enjoy an optional breakfast or brunch at the traditional House of the Mijaks, where a complimentary coffee or tea invites you to slow down and enjoy the mountain air.
The tour then continues to Ohrid, often called the jewel of North Macedonia and home to one of Europe’s oldest lakes. Set on the shores of Lake Ohrid, this historic town is famous for its stone streets, Byzantine heritage, and breathtaking lakeside views. During your visit, you will discover some of Ohrid’s most important landmarks, including the Church of St. Mary Peribleptos, the Ancient Theatre of Ohrid, the archaeological site of Plaoshnik, the Church of Saints Clement and Panteleimon, Kaneo, the Church of Hagia Sophia, and Ohrid’s atmospheric old town. A walk along the lakeshore completes the experience, before you enjoy a traditional riverside lunch.
